  • Reduction of dislocation

What to expect at the Emergency Department:

Triage
When you first arrive, a triage nurse will determine the severity of your condition based on your symptoms. The nurse will check your vital signs, temperature, heart rate, respiratory rate, blood pressure and pain scale. Someone will record your name, address and medical history.

Examination
After initial assessment you will be directed to an examination area where an emergency physician will examine you and possibly order tests such as x-ray, blood test and electrocardiogram (ECG). Your vital signs will be monitored. Nurses and other medical staff will assist you.

Treatment
If you are critically ill or require intravenous medications of fluids, you may be admitted to the hospital. If you are not seriously ill, an emergency physician will discuss your diagnosis and treatment plan with you before you are discharged. You will receive written instructions regarding medications, restrictions or symptoms that may require a follow up visit.

How YOU can prevent and respond to an emergency:

Stay calm and act decisively. The first few minutes after an injury often are the most important. Doctors advise the following four steps:

1. Prevent Emergencies
Exercise regularly and undergo medical check up to protect your health. Reduce rsik factors. Quit smoking.

2. Prepare for Emergencies
Keep first aid kits at home, at work and in your car. Recognize emergency warning signs. Keep a list of medications taken by you and your family, note allergies. Take first aid classes. Post emergency numbers near the telephone.

3. Recognize life threatening emergencies
Not every cut or burn requires a trip to the emergency department.

Get help fast though when the following warning signs are present:

  • Chest pain lasting more than two minutes
  • Uncontrolled bleeding
  • Sudden or severe pain
  • Coughing or vomiting of blood
  • Difficulty of breathing, shortness of breath
  • Sudden dizziness, weakness or change in vision
  • Severe or persistent vomiting or diarrhea
  • Change in mental status

4. Act
Action can mean anything, from calling the paramedics, applying pressure on a wound, performing CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) or splinting an injury.

Never perform a procedure if you are unsure how to do it.

  • Do not move anyone involved in a motor vehicle crash or serious fall or found unconscious unless the person is in immediate danger of further injury.
  • You may call our Emergency Room at 8888.910 for ambulance pick up.
  • Do not give the victim anything to eat or drink. Keep that person covered.
  • If the victim is bleeding, apply a clean cloth or sterile bandage. If possible, elevate the injury. Apply direct pressure on the wound.
  • If the victim is not breathing, begin rescue breathing or CPR.
