The Nursing & Patient Care Services joined the global nursing community in observance of the International Nurses Week 2017 with the theme “Nurses Transforming Care to Every Patient, Every Time.” The three-day celebration was held from May 9 to 12, 2017 at the MakatiMed 8th Floor Tower 2 Auditorium.
“MakatiMed Nurses continue to transform care at the bedside by strongly and effectively adopting to the changes in healthcare throughthe Transformational Professional Practice Model of Leadership,” said Christine A. Donnelly, EDL, MSN, MA, RN, VP and Director for Nursing & Patient Care Services.
Grace Dyan Maranan, RN, Clinical Department Manager for Emergency Nursing Services, officially opened this year’s celebration at the Eucharistic and Opening Ceremony on May 9. Ritchelle M. Galang, RN, MAN, Program Manager for Nursing Standards and Policy, discussed the activities for the entire week. Notable guests were Johnny Sinon, MD, Medical Director; Arlyn Songco, Division Head for Marketing & Sales Services; Arnold Ocampo, Division Head for Finance; Pilar Baltasar, Division Head for Quality Management; Joy Oconer, Division Head for Billing, Credit and Collections; Melvin Chan, AVP for Organizational Development and Planning; Shieyl L. Aranas, Department Manager for Promotions, Communications & Special Projects; and, Delilah C. Santos, Department Manager for Labor and Employee Relations.
The celebration continued in the afternoon when the division held a free movie screening ofmedical-related films involving nursing ethical dilemmas. After each film, a team of nurses processed the learnings and discussed the practical implications in the Nursing practice. At the same time, the Nurses’ Experience Board was launched to gather thoughts and feedback on how nurses advocate the profession.
Celebrating at the Bedside was done on May 10, a tradition every major nursing event to distribute simple tokens of appreciation to all nursing staff across the three towers of the hospital. Another tradition during Nurses’ Week, the Nurses’ Bazaar took place at the Auditorium where Nurses demonstrated entrepreneurial enthusiasm.
This year’s War of the Wit 3.0 showed a restructuring of the previous games, making it a fusion of knowledge and skills challenges in nursing, Joint Commission International, and general concepts. This interdepartmental competition was held in the morning of May 12 at the Auditorium Hall A. Renal Care Services topped the competition, besting other departments. Critical Care Department and the CARE Batch 79 trailed behind, bagging 2nd place and 3rd place, respectively.
The 5th Nursing Lecture Series was held in the afternoon with the theme “MMC Nurses: Leading to Achieve the WHO’s Sustainable Development Goals.” This served as the culminating activity of this 2017 celebration. Nerissa A. Lagarico, RN, MAN, Clinical Department Manager for Maternity and VIP Services, discussed “The World of Unequals”. Carolyn M. Santos, RN, MAN, Clinical Department Manager for Newborn and Pediatric Services, and Edelman P. del Mundo, Nurse Manager for Endoscopy Unit, discussed the “17 Sustainable Development Goals”. Rommel E. Alegre, RN, MAN, EDL, discussed “How can MMC Nurses be a Voice to Lead and Agent to Transform?”
A display exhibit, featuring all key points and milestones on Nurses Transforming Care at the Bedside was displayed at the Main Lobby from May 22 to June 2, 2017
