Cancer is a very common disease, but only 5-10% is hereditary or run in families. People born with faulty or mutated copies of cancer protection genes lose the protection thereby causing hereditary cancer. When multiple family members have been diagnosed with cancer, ideally, the person diagnosed with cancer at the youngest age should do genetic testing and predictive testing first. The testing helps identify individuals who are at risk of developing the disease.
