Orthopedics

The Department of Orthopedics, with its twenty-three (23) years of outstanding service, is dedicated to relieving pain, improving function, and restoring quality of life for individuals who suffer from musculoskeletal injuries or diseases.

The Department provides state-of-the-art clinical and surgical orthopedic patient-centered care with continuous education and development of better treatments through research and innovation.

The Department has a very diverse consultant staff with specialized training in foot and ankle surgery, hand and upper extremity surgery, joint reconstructive surgery, orthopedic oncology, orthopedic trauma and fractures, pediatric orthopedics, spine surgery, and sports medicine.

The Department also offers the most advanced and appropriate non-surgical and surgical treatment for all musculoskeletal problems.

• Arthroplasty – joint deformity and pain of hips and knees (total joint replacement of the hip, knee, and shoulder for advanced arthritis)
• Foot and Ankle Orthopedics – bone and soft tissue injuries of the foot and ankle; foot and ankle arthritis/deformities of adult patients (arthroscopic ankle surgeries to address cartilage injuries or ankle impingement (a common cause of pain), and osteotomies (bone surgeries) around the foot and ankle)
• Hand Orthopedics – bone and soft tissue injuries of the hand, inflamed tendon, pinched nerves (de quervain’s release, elbow and hand injections, hand syndactyly (joined) / polydactyly (extra finger) surgery, ligament/nerve/tendon/vascular repair, open carpal tunnel decompression, trigger finger release)
• Orthopedic oncology – bone and soft tissue mass (bumps) of the upper and lower extremity (tumor removal surgery)
• Pediatric Orthopedics – upper and lower extremity deformities (congenital or acquired) and musculoskeletal injuries of pediatric patients (corrective osteotomies for knock knee and bow leg, corrective surgery and Ponseti casting for clubfoot, hip dysplasia surgery, pinning for slipped capital femoral epiphysis (hip condition))
• Spine Orthopedics – deformities (e.g. scoliosis), infection and degenerative diseases of the spines, pinches nerve, and trauma (endoscopic lumbar discectomy, micro lumbar discectomy, scoliosis bracing and surgery, spine fusion)
• Sports Medicine/Minimally Invasive Surgery – minimally-invasive ligament and muscle reconstructions, sports-related musculoskeletal injuries, sports rehabilitation (arthroscopic surgeries such as anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) / posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) / medial patellofemoral ligament (MPFL) reconstruction / meniscus surgery / rotator cuff repair)
• Trauma – upper and lower extremity fractures of adult patients (casting or surgical fixation for upper and lower extremity fractures)

Orthopedic Residency Program
The residency program, which is consistently accredited and presently recognized by the Philippine Board of Orthopedics (PBO), offers excellent education, training, and research. Sub-specialty exposure during the residency includes rotations in Hand and Upper Extremity Trauma, Orthopedic Oncology, Pediatric Orthopedics, Spine, and Sports Medicine, Total Joints and Reconstruction.

To augment the case load and exposure, the program has outside rotations in partner hospitals which include the Philippine Children’s Medical Center (Pediatric Orthopedics) and Ospital ng Makati (OsMak) (Trauma).

The Department of Orthopedics has proven to be an established national and international leader in providing outstanding patient care, medical education, clinical experience, and musculoskeletal research. This reputation would not be possible without the complement of its equally excellent faculty members, committed residency students, and methods and procedures in state-of-the-art facilities.
