The Neurological Intensive Care Unit (Neuro ICU) is the intensive care unit for patients with life-threatening neurological (nervous system) diseases. Neurology and Neurosurgery Physicians are assisted by highly skilled and specialty-trained nurses, pharmacists, and physical and occupational therapists. Among the diseases monitored and treated in this facility are stroke, head and spine trauma, seizures, multiple sclerosis, and brain and spine tumors.
Part of the Neuro ICU is the Acute Stroke Unit (ASU) where comprehensive treatment of stroke and other cerebrovascular (brain and blood vessels) disorders is provided. Conditions that are best treated in the unit include ischemic stroke, cerebral (brain) hemorrhage, aneurysms/subarachnoid hemorrhage, carotid artery/vertebral (spinal) conditions, and vascular malformations.
