According to a memorandum circulated in October, MakatiMed Medical Director Johnny B. Sinon, MD, said the appointment is for a period of three years, from October 14, 2016 to October 13, 2019.
The Adoption & Foster Care Clinic offers comprehensive medical, developmental, behavioral and psychosocial services which aims to address unique needs of the adopted children or those in foster care, and their adopting/foster families.
“We want to make sure that the children are healthy physically, mentally and emotionally,” said Dr. Sia. “. As for the adoptive parents, we can help them through the challenges of adoption. They need a venue where they can safely and freely talk about their feelings and concerns about adopting a child and about being adoptive parents, and how to communicate with and become a parent to a child who may be emotionally or psychologically fragile. For those who already have biological children, we can talk about how this decision will impact their family relationship.”
“On the other hand, for the birth parents or birth mother who ‘lost’ a child through adoption, they need help in coming to terms with their feelings of loss and grief,” Dr. Sia said.
