Makati Medical Center (MakatiMed), through its Nursing and Patient Care Services Division (NPCSD), successfully held the 2nd International Nursing Quality, Innovation & Research Conference (INQUIRE) on November 6–7, gathering local and international nurses, academics, and healthcare leaders to advance innovation and evidence-based nursing practice.
The conference opened with welcome remarks from Saturnino P. Javier, MD, MakatiMed Interim Co-President & CEO and Medical Director, who underscored the importance of collaboration: “I take special pride that our nursing care services has adapted a collaborative platform that allows us to share our work with nurses everywhere, ultimately benefiting patients with the kind of care [that is] competent, ethical, professional, and patient-centered.”
Plenary speakers included Christine Garcia-Pabico, PhD, RN (American Nurses Credentialing Center), Roberta A. Rolland, PhD, RN, FNP, CNE, ACUE (College of Central Florida), Prof. Winnie K. So, PhD, RN (The Chinese University of Hong Kong), and Madam Jayanthi Marimuthu, MSN, BSNurs, RN, CNM (KPJ Healthcare Malaysia), who discussed well-being, global nursing trends, translation of evidence into practice, and innovation that transforms patient care.
Day 2 opened with a message from Arnold C. Ocampo, CPA, MMHoA, MakatiMed Interim Co-President & CEO and Chief Financial Officer, who noted, “Innovation is no longer optional. Nurses are at the forefront of adapting technologies that enhance patient outcomes. But beyond technology, quality is a mindset rooted in collaboration and continuous learning, and anchored always on empathy and patient-centered care.”
Interactive plenary dialogues showcased practical applications of research and culture-building in healthcare. Pearl Ed G. Cuevas, PhD, RN (Global Society for Philippine Nurse Researchers, Inc.) led the session on translating research into unit-level change with discussants Daryl Jeremiah R. Gaba, MAN, RN (MakatiMed), Jennifer Joy R. Olivar, PhD, RN (St. Paul University Manila), and Rudolf Cymorr Kirby P. Martinez, PhD, RN (San Beda University), moderated by Julius L. Vinluan, RN, CLDP. The session on quality culture was led by Adrian M. Lawsin, DNM, MAN, RN, with insights from Joyce K. Nazario, CPXP (Metro Pacific Health), Grace Dyan C. Maranan, MAN, RN (Makati Medical Center), and Julius T. Flores, MAN, RN (Cardinal Santos Medical Center), moderated by Arthur Kevin V. Castor, RN, CLSSBB, FISQua.
The final plenaries, delivered by Nicolo Andrei Añonuevo, PhD, MAN, MBA, RN (St. John Colleges) and Hon. Merle L. Salvani, PhD, RN (Professional Regulatory Board of Nursing), emphasized leadership, integrity, and the convergence of quality, innovation, and research. Concurrent sessions also showcased research and clinical innovation projects from students, faculty, and clinical practitioners, including presentations on artificial intelligence in nursing research and quality improvement tools for enhanced patient care.
