You may be admitted as a patient of the Makati Medical Center several ways. First, your physician may be practicing at the center, and he or she may have referred you to us. Or, you may have come to the Emergency Room seeking treatment for an urgent condition. If you suffered a medical emergency, paramedics, an ambulance or other emergency personnel would have brought you to the Emergency Department. Or, you may have chosen to have a cosmetic procedure or routine check-up done with our Corporate Health and Wellness Center.
However you have come to us, we welcome you and wish you a comfortable and pleasant stay at the Makati Med. Do remember that if you are not in any critical condition, and if time permits, it is best if you prepare for your hospital stay.
Prepare your personal information, such as your current address, phone number, and employer. Also organize your health information—your condition, your medical records, the medications you are taking and information regarding your Phil Health, Medicare, HMO or other insurance benefits. Plan your payment arrangements.
If you were referred by a physician practicing with us, he or she will inform you what time you should arrive at the hospital and where you should go. If you were not given specific information, please come to the Admissions Office at the first floor lobby of our main building to check in.
You may find it helpful to review our map before you travel to Makati Medical Center. Upon arrival, you will find adequate parking at our basement parking facilities. Handicapped parking is readily available. Parking is free for the first 45 minutes. Families of patients may purchase long-term parking permits at the Admissions Office, at LOCAL 17.
When you arrive, please check in at the Admissions Office. Admitting hours are from 5:00am until 9:30pm, Monday through Friday and 7:00 am to 9:30 pm Saturday and Sunday.
If you enter from the hospital's main entrance, the Admissions Office is on the 1st floor, towards the left. If you approach from the basement parking, you will have to take the elevator to the main lobby.
Please bring your insurance papers with you, as well as the name and contact number/s of your doctor, whether or not he / she is practicing at the Makati Med.
If you have Medicare or PhilHealth, or group insurance, bring your identification card plus any special forms or preauthorization documents.
If you are married, please bring information about your spouse’s insurance coverage. You may be covered by your spouse’s insurance as well as your own, and you deserve to obtain the full insurance benefits for which you are eligible.
A list of medications you are taking (i.e. prescription, over-the-counter, and herbal supplements) will help in your treatment. It promtes medication safety by increasing communication among health care providers, reduces confusion and errors, and saves time.
Update the form if your medications change. Your health care provider can assist you with this, if needed. Keep an updated copy of the form in your wallet so it will be available in emergencies.
At the Admissions Office, expect us to verify if your insurance requires a co-payment or deductible, and to verify your personal and health information.
The Admitting staff will also require you to sign a form called Terms and Conditions of Service. Please read this form carefully before signing. This form includes your consent to general treatment, your acceptance of financial responsibility for services/charges not covered by insurance, health plan, or other source (e.g., worker’s compensation or clinical trial), and your assignment of insurance benefits directly to the Makati Medical Center.
You will also be asked if you have an Advance Health Care Directive on file with the hospital. If you do not have one and wish to have one filed in your record, we will provide you with a copy at the Admissions Office. It contains the form for Durable Power of Attorney for Health Care (which allows another person to make health care decisions for you if you are unable to make them yourself). If you have already prepared an Advance Directive, please bring a copy to the hospital and we will place it in your medical record.
Outpatients also have to register at the Outpatient Department. Please bring with you your PhilHealth, Medicare or other health insurance card and the name and telephone number of your physician.
We will verify all information (name, address, telephone number, etc.) during the registration process.
Many medical treatments and procedures will not require you to stay at the hospital for more than 24 hours. The status called "Under Observation," gives your doctor time to evaluate and treat your condition before deciding if you should be admitted or can go home.
Should you feel the need for such a service, the Makati Medical Center can provide you with an interpreter. However, you will have to specify this during admission.
We suggest that you bring only those personal items you will need during your hospitalization. These might include a robe, a towel, combs and brushes, and personal hygiene items, reading material, one or two checks and a small amount of cash (PhP1,000.). Also bring essential medical devices such as hearing aids and dentures.
Makati Medical Center will provide you with a hospital kit that contains basic toiletries such as soap, shampoo, toothpaste and toothbrush, toilet paper, alcohol and cotton.
Please leave at home your valuables such as jewelry, large sums of cash, cell phones, laptop computers, cameras or video equipment. For safety reasons, electronic appliances (except small appliances such as shavers and hair dryers) are not permitted in patient rooms. Shavers and dryers, however, are not allowed in the Intensive Care Unit.
If, for any reason, you came to Makati Med with valuables, please check these in and allow us to keep them safely in our safety deposit box. The hospital cannot be responsible for the loss or damage of any personal property kept in your room.
Makati Medical Center follows a strict No Smoking policy (by patients, staff or visitors) anywhere within its premises. This includes the hospital entrances, courtyards and most outdoor areas.

The regular medical care rooms are all outfitted with standard amenities and state-of-the-art hospital beds, and a convenient way to contact a nurse or staff, who will respond to you promptly. All our rooms are subjected to the strictest standards of sanitation. The amenities provided in these rooms, however differ and have a corresponding daily room cost.
Room confirmation is made on the day of admission because patients’ discharge and emergency admissions are uncertain.
