Food and health are so closely linked together, that our dietary department has always been a partner, albeit the quiet one, in your healing.
Scientific advances, changes in lifestyle and the worsening environment all contribute, however, have expanding the scope of dietetics in both the treatment and prevention of disease.
Nutrition Support Dietetics
Because of this, dietetics are called on to play a more active role in patient care. We at Makati Medical Center Dietary Department recognize this, and pioneer in promoting the concept of Nutrition Support Dietetics in the country' healthcare scene.
Following this concept, our nutrition support dietetics play an active part in your health care team, together with specialists and nurses. This is particularly so in patients with disorders of the heart, lungs, gastrointestinal tract, liver and kidneys, and those where multiple organ systems may be affected, like cancer, AIDS, and severe trauma.
Thus, your care team is composed not only of doctors and nurses, but dietitians, pharmacists and other health care professionals--all contributing their unique expertise and working for your speedy recovery.
Thus, our clinical dieticians also participate in medical rounds. They actively discuss patient care with your specialists, sharing their information on current research and new dietary products that may be suitable for patients.
They also take part in educational orientations of patients at the cardiac, kidney, cancer and other similar units where diet plays a key role in the prevention, treatment and prognosis of the disease.
Our Food Service System
The other more common function of our department is providing food for patients, their guests and all those who work in the hospital.
We do this too, but at Makati Med, we try our best to beat the bad reputation of "hospital food" exerting all effort to provide meals that are nutritious and appetizing.
Our Food Service System provides individualized total nutrition care for patients on regular and therapeutic diets. Meals are available for doctors, hospital employees and guests.
The Dietary department follows a centralized food service system where the dietary personnel prepares and dish out meals from the main kitchen before they are delivered to the patients.
Meals for the doctors at the Doctor' Lounge are made exclusively for this group, while the employees, nursing students and guests are served a variety of food items at the cafeteria.
Patients on a regular diet who are confined in the hospital are served nutritious meals scheduled for the day. Menus are adjusted to suit the individual needs of patients on therapeutic diets. For meal schedules, visit Food Service.
However, we can also accommodate room service for family members and guests of patients, birthday presents, cakes or fruit baskets, for patients. We also accept catering for outpatients who have difficulty preparing their therapeutic diets. And last, but not the least, we can also whip up banquets for special functions -- like the cultural events sponsored by the Medical Education department held in the hospital.
