Radiology

Makati Medical Center has one of the largest radiology units in the country, offering the complete range of diagnostic and therapeutic radiological procedures.

At Makati Med, we are committed to improving your health through excellence in image-based patient care, research and education.

Well Equipped

Our facility is stocked with the latest advances in imaging techniques and state-of-the-art equipment.

We keep our radiologists on the leading edge of technology, developing exciting new techniques that result in improved patient care.

Our Radiologic Modalities Include:

CT (Computerized Tomography)

  • 16 Row Detector
  • 8 Row Detector
  • 4 Row Detector

General Radiology

  • Computed Radiography
  • Digital Fluoroscopy

Mammography

  • Full Field Digital Mammography
  • Computer Aided Detection Program for Screening Mammograms
  • Stereotactic Core Biopsy Program

MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging)

  • 1.5 Tesla
  • Twin Gradient
  • MRT (Magnetic Resonance Therapy)

Nuclear Medicine

  • Bone Density
  • PET/CT (Positron Emission Tomography/Computed Tomography)

Ultrasound

Following these modalities, the following units are organized under the Radiology department:

Well Trained

All the medical staff, nurses and radiologic technologists at our department are licensed by the Professional Regulations Commission. All of us undergo continuous training with the Philippine Association of Radiology and the Philippine Federation of Radiological Technologies. All our consultants are also fellows of the Philippine College of Radiology.

Being well equipped and trained, we are able to provide you with exceptional radiological care—highly accurate readings and correctly analyzed test results—which altogether eliminate the need to retake examinations, and spare you the inconvenience of such retakes.

CT-MRI

Computed Tomography (CT) scans show anatomical information from a cross-sectional plane of your body, revealing both bone and soft tissues, including organs, muscles and tumors.

On the other hand, Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is a non-invasive method used in medical imaging to demonstrate pathological or other physiological alterations of living tissues.

Makati Med’s CT-MRI section is composed of physicians who are expert in interpreting both CT scans and MRI.

Diagnostic Radiology

Our Diagnostic Radiology Section is staffed with full-time Diagnostic Radiologists who are trained in every specialty and diagnostic modality.

We are equipped with fully digitalized machines capable of performing tests from the basic chest x-ray to the more complex angiography examinations.

Our machines and staff are more than capable of handling the hospital-wide demand for portable or bedside radiography, as well as orthopedic radiology procedures.

Interventional Radiology

At Makati Med, we follow the latest advances in our field, and use Interventional Radiology procedures to replace open surgical procedures.

These procedures do not involve large incisions, and thus offer you less risk, less pain and a shorter recovery time.

Our interventional radiologists are physicians who specialize in minimally invasive, targeted treatments performed using imaging guidance. They are expert in reading x-rays, ultrasound and other medical images, to guide them as they treat diseases percutaneously or via needle puncture. Such procedures are often safer compared to the “open” approach that exposes internal organs and tissues.

Our Location:

  • Ground Floor, Main Building
  • Telephone: +632 8888 999 locals 7413 or 7044

Clinic Hours:

  • Monday-Friday, 7am-7pm
  • Operating hours: On-call basis after 7:00 p.m. on Saturdays, Sundays and Holidays

Radiation Oncology

Radiation therapy plays an important role in managing the spread of cancer in patients with early-stage cancer. It also serves as palliation of symptoms from advanced or metastatic disease.

Radiation machines like linear accelerators have been designed and developed so that high doses of radiation therapy can be delivered to deep parts of the anatomy, while sparing superficial tissues.

At Makati Med, our radiation oncologists are specially trained in this area. Skillful and licensed radiologic technologists and medical physicists assist us.

  • Ground Floor, Main Building

  • Monday-Saturday, 7am-7pm

Operating hours:

  • Open 24 hours, Monday to Sunday including holidays (CT Scan)

Ultrasound

Diagnosis in early days of medicine was subjective and imprecise, especially before ultrasound became widely accepted as a diagnostic tool. Then, much time was spent examining patients and a lot of x-ray films were used before doctors could arrive at a diagnosis. A great deal of imagination was required to make up for poor images.

Much of that changed as the use of ultrasounds became more widespread. And we at Makati Med are proud to have been the first in the country to introduce diagnostic ultrasound in 1973. Since then, we have led in the field.

At our Ultrasound Section, we offer modern ultrasound imaging performed by radiologists who are specially trained in ultrasound scanning and interpretation.

Ultrasound scanning or sonography involves exposing a part of your body to high-frequency sound waves to produce internal pictures. Ultrasound images are captured in real-time, showing the structure and movement of your body’s internal organs as well as blood flowing through the blood vessels.

Today, we routinely use real-time ultrasound to help our various departments in their diagnosis. We have eight machines serving a patient load of an average of 65 a day. We also have the only Acuson Aegis System found in the entire southeast Asia, which we use to network our section machines. This fully-computerized system allows us to rapidly diagnose patients.

Our Ultrasound unit is staffed by 8 sonologists, 14 sonographers, and enough staff and aides to guarantee exceptional care.

Our Location:

  • Near the Emergency Department, Ground Floor, Main Building
  • Telephone: +632 8888 999 local 68

Clinic Hours:

  • Monday-Friday, 6am-7pm
  • Saturday, 6am to 12noon
  • On-call basis after 7pm Saturdays, Sundays and Holidays

The Radiology department was organized as soon as Makati Med opened its doors in 1968, and its history will show that we have always been at the forefront of radiologic advances:

  • Our first ultrasound unit was acquired as early as 1978
  • Microfilming started in 1979 with the use of 100mm spot films mounted on special holders.
  • In early 1980, the first film mammography unit was installed.
  • In 1989, all X-ray reports were computerized computerization
  • The same year, a Therpac 2-D Radiotherapy and Brachytherapy Computerized Planner, and a complete Farmer Radiotherapy Dosimetry system complemented the fully established radiotherapy section
  • The country’s first mammography unit was set up in 1990.
  • In 1992, the Ultrasound Section was relocated closer to the Emergency Department, to provide patients with speedy images needed for emergency care.

In 1993 the country’s first X-ray diagnostic unit was installed together with a panoramic dental unit. A second digital diagnostic unit soon followed.
