Obstetrics and Gynecology
The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of the Makati Medical Center traces its beginnings to 1969. It was organized under its first Chairman Dr. Constantino P. Manahan, one of the founders of the hospital, to provide unparalleled quality care to women from all sectors of society.
Obstetrics and Gynecology is a core department of the Makati Medical Center that is composed of fully-credentialed expert physicians who practice general and subspecialty Obstetrics and Gynecology. It is a premiere women’s health center that offers comprehensive care for women of all ages. The Department recognizes four subspecialties and five special interest areas:
Subspecialties:
- Gynecologic Oncology
- Maternal-Fetal Medicine and Obstetrical and Gynecological Ultrasonography
- Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility
- Urogynecology
Special interest areas:
- Adolescent Gynecology
- Climacteric Medicine
- Gynecologic Endoscopy
- Obstetrical and Gynecologic Infectious Disease
- Trophoblastic Disease
To meet the growing demand for quality but less expensive care, the Department offers the following package programs:
- Spontaneous vaginal delivery with or without tubal ligation
- Caesarean section for singleton and twin gestations
- Dilatation and curettage
- Neonatal circumcision
- Hysterectomy
- Exploratory laparotomy
- Fractional dilatation and curettage
Obstetrics
Makati Medical Center recognizes childbirth as a momentous event for the entire family. Through its facilities and staff at the Obstetrics and Gynecology complex, the hospital provides patients with the safest and most comfortable delivery experience possible. It ensures that mothers and newborn babies receive only the highest standard of quality care.
The Labor and Delivery Unit is outfitted with state-of-the-art facilities to provide appropriate treatment for the growing healthcare needs of mothers and babies. The birthing rooms are equipped with Hill-Rom Affinity IV birthing beds, fetal monitors, comfortable lounge chairs for the expectant fathers and flat screen televisions.
There are five operating rooms within the Obstetrics and Gynecology complex, providing venues for obstetrical and gynecological procedures as well as minimal access surgery. The ultrasound section of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology is housed in the same area. It boasts of top of the line 2D/3D/4D ultrasound machines handled by subspecialists in the field.
Obstetrics and Gynecology is staffed by experienced health workers and fully-credentialed Obstetrician-Gynecologists. They ensure that mothers and babies receive nothing but the best care and attention. Services under Obstetrics include but are not limited to the admission, work-up, diagnosis and management of all conditions occurring during pregnancy from the time of conception through the postpartum. These are:
- Prenatal and postpartum assessment and care of low and high risk patients
- Physical examination
- Electronic fetal monitoring and other diagnostic evaluations
- Ultrasonography
- Spontaneous and instrumental deliveries
- Operative obstetrical procedures (Caesarean section, dilatation and curettage, Caesarean-hysterectomy, etc.)
- Management of the complications of pregnancy
Gynecology
The Gynecology service covers the medical and surgical car of women during the reproductive and post reproductive stages of their lives. The procedures offered include but are not limit to the admission, work-up, diagnosis and management of all conditions of gynecologic disease, screening for gynecological cancers, family planning, contraception, evaluation and treatment of endocrine dysfunction, infertility and evaluation and treatment of incontinence. These are:
- Annual preventive physical examinations
- Pap smear
- Breast examination
- Ultrasonography
- Referrals for sub specialized management (colposcopy, urogynecologic procedures, diagnostic endoscopy)
- Operative gynecology: hysterectomy, myomectomy, adnexal surgery, fractional dilatation and curettage, biopsy, excision, marsupialization, incision and drainage, tubal ligation, cancer surgery, hysteroscopy and minimally invasive surgery, suspension procedures and vaginal reconstructive surgery
