The Department of Neurosciences has been in existence since the opening of the Makati Medical Center in 1969. It was envisioned by its founding chairman, Dr. Romeo Gustilo, to be a tripartite organization, consisting of the sections of Neurology, Neurosurgery and Psychiatry, functioning independently of each other but cohesively bonded by the necessary interdependence of their collective disciplines which is Neuroscience. The vision encapsulated Dr. Gustilo’s experiences at John Hopkins Hospital where he trained in Neurosurgery.

The present chairman of the Department is Dr. Regina Macalintal-Canlas. She continuously works for the fulfillment of the vision of the founding chairman- that of collaboration of the section of Neurology, Neurosurgery and Psychiatry, and training of specialist with a holistic and compassionate approach towards patients.
