An Abundance of Healing and Tourist Spots
South Africa boasts of medical safaris and Thailand brags about the luxury of its international hospitals that look almost like hotels.
The Philippines has its own share of exciting sights and sounds, plush hotels and glamorous places, but we think we actually have more to offer you. And we think that what we have to offer may be what you really need.
Being a lush, tropical country, we have the range of tourist spots—from exotic locales, to majestic mountains, beautiful beaches, picturesque sleepy towns, tribal villages, historical spots, exhilarating night spots. But we also have a good number of the relaxing, healing spots that you need to recuperate from illness or surgery.
Numerous tourist and healing spots dot our country, so much so that even very discriminating international patients will be able to choose a spot or two that will suit personal preferences, budget and time constraints.
Cool Mountain Vacations
A cool climate, crisp air and placid small towns and cities have traditionally been part of doctor’s orders for those who are not in the pink of health. And the Philippines has its share of cool places and peaceful mountains: Sagada, Baguio City, Tagaytay, Subic, Banahaw and Banaue are some of these:
- Sagada, Mt. Province. Cool, crisp air, mist, mountains and a secluded, placid small town ideal for you as you recuperate.
- Baguio City, Benguet Province. The same cool air and mountains, but in a more accessible, urban setting where you can enjoy city amenities, communication and transportation.
- Subic Bay, Olongapo City. Virgin forests, gentle hills and a beach, all in a spot you can easily access.
- Tagaytay City. Cool mountains, crisp air, a scenic view of Taal Lake, in a spot a day-trip away from the capital.
- Banahaw, Quezon. A mystical mountain with cultural, historical—and healing—significance. Encounter southeast Asian spirituality in this place where several spiritual cults and environmentalist groups thrive amid the lush tropical flora and fauna.
- Banaue, Batad and Hungduan Rice Terraces, Ifugao. Let this 2,000-year old engineering and anthropological marvel awe you: Terraced rice fields reach 2,000 meters above sea level, fed by rainforest waters, carved by a tropical tribe in a highly collaborative manner, without the use of slave labor.
- Mt. Pinatubo. Experience a rejuvenating connection to the cosmos in the surreal lunar-like landscape.

Healing and Eco-tourist spots
The Philippines is one of the world’s richest countries—in terms of biodiversity. It is home to thousands of species that can be found nowhere else in the world: 6,000 plant, hundreds of bird, frog and butterfly species. This is one reason that makes the country a healing place to come to—a place where you can revel in the bounty of nature. Other spots are “healing” because of their uniquely rustic or laid-back feel.
- Bulacan Resorts. Healing resorts abound here against the backdrop of a picturesque and truly Filipino town.
- Hundred Islands, Pangasinan. Get awed by these specks of coralline islands and the lovely waters that wash them.
- Pagsanjan Falls & Laguna Resorts. Benefit from the shock value of shooting the rapids at Pagsanjan Falls, or get refreshed by the "water therapy" of being around hot springs, lakes and waterfalls that dot Laguna province.
- Tubbataha Reef National Park, Palawan. Surround yourself with the healing bounty of nature in this World Heritage site. Discover the 8.2 kilometer navigable underground river. Revel in the fact that the waters here are home to 300 coral species, 7 sea grass species, 71 algae species, and hundreds of species of dolphins, marine turtles and seabirds.
- Pamilacan Island, Baclayon, Bohol. Refresh yourself in this critical marine mammal habitat, and elevate your spirits by interacting with dolphins and whales. Studies show that frolicking with dolphins can alleviate the pain and depression that comes with severe medical conditions.
- Whale Shark EcoTourism Site, Donsol, Sorsogon. Experience the deep spiritual and healing experience of being in close contact with whale sharks.
- Seacow EcoTourism site, Turtle Island EcoTourism, Palawan. Get thrilled by sighting these rare and endangered animals: the “dugong” or sea cow, the only herbivorous mammal left today, the green turtle and the hawksbill turtle.
- Olongo Island Avian Sanctuary, Cebu. Experience the wonder of witnessing 50,000 birds of various species as they migrate away from mainland Asia during the cold months.
- Philippine Eagle & Nature Research Center, Davao. Allow the king of Philippine birds, the Philippine eagle, to awe you with its majesty.
- Center for Philippine Raptors (Laguna). Get captivated with the live cycles of diurnal and nocturnal raptorial birds found here.
- Pacem Eco-Park, Sumulong Antipolo. Marvel in a multiplicity of birds and butterfies. This park, so close to the capital, is home to over 80 of the country’s 1,600 species of butterflies and a number of native and foreign birds such as mynahs, owls, eagles, and parrots.

Heritage Sites
- Ifugao Rice Terraces. The terraces found in various parts of Ifugao—Banaue, Hungduan, Batad, Mayoyao—altogether form a Unesco World Heritage Site, declared so because its great beauty is a product of a remarkable balance between conquering and conserving nature.
- Vigan, Ilocos Sur. This historic town is a heritage site that preserves turn of the century European colonial architecture.
For the more adventurous, or for International Patients who intend to stay for longer stretches, the Philippines is world famous for its diving sites. The best and most complete wish list for world-class diving scuba sites are all found in the country, amid lush sceneries.
