Travel Requirements

Welcome to the Philippines. We are a developing southeast Asian nation with a democratic system of government. Our archipelago consists of more than 7,000 islands, of which over 800 are inhabited. Our major island groupings are Luzon in the north, the Visayas in the center, and Mindanao in the south. Tourist facilities are available in virtually all our cities, English is widely spoken, and most signs are in English. We are probably the most welcoming people on the face of the earth.

Passport Requirements

If you get a visa beforehand you will be entitled to 59 days, or you can simply get an extension of up to 59 days at immigration offices in Manila and many provincial towns for a few hundred pesos. Don't forget to take your passport and return airline ticket. Extensions for visas are possible and should be made with the Bureau of Immigration and Deportation's main office at Magallanes Drive; Intramuros, Manila, Philippines, or at any of its provincial offices (http://www.immigration.gov.ph).

Many resorts in the more popular areas will arrange extensions for you for a fee. Extensions beyond 59 days take more time and can usually only be arranged through Manila, although some cities, like Cebu, can process the forms on site.

Note:

Passport and visa requirements are liable to change at short notice. Travelers are advised to check their entry requirements with their embassy or consulate.

All persons who overstay their visas may be fined and detained by Philippine immigration authorities.
